As mentioned before, finding a Breeder would be easy
if every Breeder was RESPONSIBLE. The reality is, not all Breeders are
responsible. Check out "The Right Breeder?"
hotlink which contains information about the different characteristics of different types
of breeders. This page is dedicated to helping you determine as to whether you are
dealing with a potential Puppymiller or inexperienced Breeder:
- Bullmastiffs by the Bulk: Puppymillers will
produce much more than two (2) litters per year. The average Puppymiller will
normally turn out twelve (12) to thirty-six (36) litters per year! This allows
the Puppymiller to offer puppies of any color and any gender all the time - ANY
TIME.
- Vague Contracts, Warrantees, & Guarantees: Puppymillers
will offer contracts, warrantees, or guarantees with no real legal binding nor of any real
value. Offering these types of contracts, warrantees, or guarantees is a new trend
that Puppymillers have caught onto in order to seem reputable and responsible in order to
attract more customers. These are the same types of contracts offered by Pet
Stores. A 6-month and some one (1) year contracts, warrantees, or guarantees are not
going to do you any good considering that most health problems start showing just before
or after the age of 2 years old in a Bullmastiff. Some contracts, warrantees, or
guarantees even state that under no circumstances are you to return this Bullmastiff puppy
to the Puppymiller - especially if the dog has been spayed/neutered!
Puppymillers have no use for spayed/neutered dogs.
- Big Ads, Cheap Prices, & Fast Cash:
Puppymillers are heavy, heavy advertisers especially when it comes to where they will ship
and what type of payment they will take. Puppymillers will take any form of cash,
check, and just LOVE those CREDIT CARDS! What is the easiest method of selling an
"item"? Instant credit!
- All Sales Are Final: Your entire conversation with
a Puppymiller will be based on a sales pitch about what "champions" they have
and what pedigrees they carry. Puppymillers generally will have little or no
interest in you or your family or the environment the Bullmastiff puppy they sell you will
live in. Once the money and Bullmastiff puppy exchange is made, you and the
Bullmastiff puppy are on your own.
There are some areas in the United States where the Prudent Buyer has to
be extremely careful due to the abundance of Puppymillers. These areas include
Missouri (Puppymilling Capital), Pennsylvania, Kansas, and New Mexico. The links
provided in the Articles of Interest section at the bottom of this page a more in-depth
analysis on the definition of puppymills. Check them out, then make your own
determination as to whether the breeder you are dealing with is RESPONSIBLE or not.
